Frequently Asked Questions Q: Will GroundScape PGC rubber mulch deteriorate or decompose?
A: No. Because GroundScape PGC landscape groundcover is manufactured from 100% recycled tire (vulcanized) rubber. The expected life of the product is 50 years. Q: How safe is GroundScape PGC?
A: The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and numerous state and private agencies determined that shredded tire rubber chips have consistently outperformed all other surface materials in impact absorption and surface attenuation. It's simply the safest landscape groundcover you can find. Q: Does GroundScape PGC have steel in it?
A: No. GroundScape PGC is specified to be 99.9% wire free. Q: Does the color of the rubber mulch fade or wear off?
A: Because of GroundScape Technologies' patent (pending) and proprietary color technology, Groundscape PGC color will not fade any more than the color or finish on your car. There will always be a uniformed and depreciable loss of color that is undetectable to the user. The landscape groundcover's color is warranted for ten years against a complete color loss. Q: Is GroundScape PGC groundcover toxic?
A: Unlike many currently available colored rubber mulch products, GroundScape PGC turf is non-toxic and is colored with non-toxic colorants. In the event of accidental ingestion, the chips will simply pass through the digestive tract of humans or animals. Q: Isn’t GroundScape PGC dirty?
A: No. Unlike black tire rubber and other rubber mulch, GroundScape PGC is color processed which seals the rubber. There is no grind residue and the rubber won’t oxidize (chalk) because the colors are UV stable. Also, you can play in GroundScape landscape groundcover in the rain or shortly after rainfall. Q: Will GroundScape PGC stain?
A: No. Unlike organic materials, GroundScape PGC will not stain clothes or cement. Q: What about mold or fungus?
A: GroundScape PGC rubber mulch does not promote or sustain any mold or fungus growth. It's ideal for gardening. Q: If GroundScape PGC rubber mulch happens to find it’s way into the washer and dryer won’t it stain or melt onto the clothes?
A: No. The color won’t wash off and therefore will not stain clothes. Rubber begins to degrade at an excess of 500°F; clothes dryers only reach approximately 100°F. Q: Can’t I just buy black tire rubber?
A: No. Black tire rubber is dirty (has grind residue), retains heat (enough to limit playtime on hot days) and has a chalk residue because UV rays are breaking down the rubber. GroundScape PGC rubber mulch landscape groundcover is clean, dissipates heat better (based on color) and in UV stable. Q: How should I install GroundScape PGC landscape groundcover?
A: GroundScape PGC will be delivered in bulk just like bark mulch, wood chips or pea gravel. Remove all existing material and bring site to grade. Install a landscape fabric (recommend as a vapor barrier). Then just dump and level the material with a rake. Install at required depth. Q: How much maintenance will GroundScape PGC rubber mulch require?
A: Very little. When installed correctly weed growth will be suppressed. An occasional raking or dragging to bring to level and to remove gross debris is recommended. Additionally because of its density, a blower can used to remove additional debris. Q: Does GroundScape PGC rubber mulch smell?
A: No. You may notice a minimal odor at time of groundcover installation, but the odor disappears quickly after installation. Q: Is GroundScape PGC Flammable?
A: No, under the Federal Hazardous Substance Act (16CFR.1500.44) GroundScape PGC rubber mulch is considered a non-flammable product. Q: Will GroundScape PGC rubber mulch blow or wash away?
A: No. GroundScape PGC will not float because the density of the product is much greater than wood chips or mulch. Because of the density and the migration (interlocking) properties of rubber, GroundScape landscape turf remains in place when it is windy or raining. Q: Does GroundScape PGC landscape turf Attract animals?
A: No. The texture of the product has proven to be disliked by animals and rodents. Therefore, animals will not nest, root or defecate in the product. A great reason to use it for gardening projects! Q: Does GroundScape PGC rubber mulch Freeze?
A: No. GroundScape PGC landscape turf is hydrophobic (meaning it does not absorb water) and therefore will not freeze. In addition, the density (weight) of the rubber product provides Geothermal properties, which insulates the soil keeping the soil 10° cooler in the summer and 10° warmer in the winter. Q: Will GroundScape PGC rubber mulch harm my plants and flowers?
A: No. As matter of fact GroundScape PGC is more beneficial to your plants and flowers because it is an inert (does not react) material. It will not absorb nutrients, fertilizers or water designated for your gardening projects. It assists your plants by keeping them moist and warm/cool and repels fungus, molds and insects.
